Toronto’s North Metro Chorus has a golden celebration

Toronto, Ontario, May 15, 2014 –Toronto’s North Metro Chorus met at their rehearsal hall last night to celebrate their recent gold medal.

On Saturday, May 3, 2014, they won their Region 16 Sweet Adelines competition in Syracuse, New York, earning the highest regional score ever awarded. With their spectacular “Toy Soldier” performance, which included 127 women on stage ranging in ages from 26 to 89, they received a score of 751, out of a possible 800. With this win, they have qualified for the International competition in Las Vegas in November, 2015.

North Metro is one of the largest Sweet Adelines International choruses in the world.  Their members, who come from all over the GTA, create a rich sound of amazing music together in pure four-part harmony. They are well-known for presenting themed “packages” that tell a story in song and dance, their most popular being Toy Soldier, Newsies, Anchors Aweigh, Mary Poppins, Oliver, the Irish set and Paint Your Wagon.

North Metro rehearses every Wednesday night at St. Clement of Ohrid Macedonian Church in Toronto. Visitors are welcome.

Save the date: On Saturday, November 15, 2014, you can experience North Metro’s winning “Toy Soldier” set and more on their two shows at Global Kingdom Ministries, 1250 Markham Rd, Scarborough. Tickets will be available mid-August through the chorus website at www.northmetrochorus.com.  North Metro Chorus is also on Facebook.

About North Metro Chorus
North Metro Chorus sings a cappella four-part harmony while at the same time executing synchronized and high-precision choreography. Their spectacular performances have been likened to Broadway.

They were the first chorus outside of the United States, and remain the only Canadian chorus, to become Sweet Adelines International Champions. Under Master Director June Dale, they have brought the gold home to Canada four times (1997, 2000, 2003, and 2013).  They have placed consistently in the top three in the world since 1996 and are one of the most celebrated choruses in Sweet Adelines International history.  In addition, North Metro won their first regional competition in 1973 and they have never looked back, winning every regional competition for which they have been eligible in the past 40 years.
