North Metro Chorus is a dynamic, multi award-winning chorus of 130+ women of all ages who have a passion for singing a cappella music. Our director, Erin Howden is a highly respected and most talented and admired musical leader, Master Director 700, vocal and performance coach, choreographer, and fosterer of the human spirit. Erin leads with heart and wisdom, continually opening new doors for our musical and personal growth and achievements. In North Metro we embrace the joy of singing and the thrill of competition with choruses from around the world. We thrive in the loving friendships we share, while promoting and supporting the diversity and equality in each member of our chorus.
Proudly a progressive and innovative chorus, North Metro is a creator of change through visionary leadership that inspires achievement for excellence in vocal and visual performance skills. We are an internationally recognized chorus, respected for our innovative, unique, and legendary performance packages which have earned us five international gold medals. We are celebrated for our caring and supportive culture which promotes individual growth through education, encouragement, and achievement. We champion an environment for women that inspires and promotes building strong and caring friendships, and memorable opportunities to grow and to express our musical gifts. Our shared experiences and success seamlessly bind us together in harmony and joy in a never-ending exciting journey. A journey where we continually strive for excellence and creativity in all that we do in our singing and desire to touch hearts, and change lives through our musical performances.
North Metro supports quartet singing and youth in our communities who love singing a cappella. Annually we produce a youth A Cappella Challenge forum which serves as a platform to encourage singing as a life-long passion and interest. In giving back to our communities we donate to local social agencies that provide services to those in need.
Currently we are one of 700+ chapters within Sweet Adelines International, with 3300 female voices worldwide. North Metro belongs to Region 16, consisting of 18 choruses situated around Lake Ontario, including two choruses in upstate New York. We are incorporated as a Canadian Not for Profit organization.
North Metro was chartered in 1967 in Toronto, Ontario. In 1970 June Dale joined the chorus as Director and led us for almost 50 years. Now retired, June will forever be part of this amazing and accomplished group of women who are thankful for June’s direction, dedication, musical arrangements, and love and care which resulted in our many regional and international championships. Now in a new era under Erin’s direction, North Metro continues to achieve higher levels of artistry in the artform of barbershop harmony and performance. We are inspired to be the best we can be. We are influenced by the new frontiers and promises of what are yet to come from a union that has historically, and undeniably enriched our lives through music and friendships.
We sing to bring joy to others, reaching out to our audiences,
to touch hearts, to inspire joy and to give hope. Joining our hearts in song provides a source of strength where there is weakness, and light where there is darkness.
